DANBURY — Police believe the shooting death of Yhameek Johnson earlier in the summer was part of an ongoing feud between two rival groups, according to newly unsealed court documents.
Johnson, 18, was killed during a drive-by shooting on Mill Ridge Road on June 20. Police have charged 17-year-old Elvis Agramonte with murder, along with a second unnamed 17-year-old accomplice.
The shooting, carried out around 8 p.m. as residents partied at several nearby homes, marked the latest incident in a feud dating to at least 2019, according to the warrant for Agramonte’s arrest.
Agramonte was charged in the June 20 shooting in early July, but prosecutors have repeatedly requested an extension of the temporary sealing order on his charging documents as police continued their investigation. Those files were unsealed Monday at state Superior Court in Danbury.
Through video evidence, police were able to identify Agramonte as the driver of a black Volkswagen Tiguan SUV believed to have been used in the shooting. The owner of the car had reported it stolen the night before the shooting, and had tracked it via a GPS monitoring system until the system stopped reporting the location late at night.
The car also had its rear license plate replaced with a New York plate stolen off another vehicle that same night.
Police believe the car made another stop about three hours before the shooting on Mill Ridge Road based on records from a stolen bank card left in the car: a McDonald’s drive-thru. Video footage from the restaurant led police to identify Agramonte as the driver.
Police believe another juvenile was also in the car, according to the warrant.
Through video footage in the area, police believe Agramonte passed Johnson and a companion while they were walking on Mill Ridge Road. They claim the teenage driver then turned around and fired two shots from a 9mm pistol at Johnson, striking him in the torso, according to the warrant.
“At the time of the shooting there were many people outside, and in the area, to include children under 16-years-old,” the warrant states.
Johnson’s companion told police the driver of the SUV yelled out the name of a group believed to have been involved in the feud before speeding away, according to the warrant.
Police said residents in the area cared for Johnson along with paramedics and fire personnel. He was transported to Danbury Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators believe Agramonte abandoned the car after the shooting at a parking garage on Abbey Lane, and tried to come back with the juvenile passenger two days later to clean it “and otherwise destroy evidence,” the warrant states.
Both were arrested after the Lyft they were in was pulled over by police and Agramonte’s cell phone was seized. He was charged for the stolen car and use of the stolen bank card and transported to a juvenile detention center. Police later charged him with Johnson’s murder while he was detained.
