UPDATE (3:10 p.m.) - A Peoria man faces a first-degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of a local woman whose body was found early Sunday near the intersection of Route 150 and Philander Chase Road.

Police on Monday identified the suspect as Joshua A. McGee who was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a 2 1/2-hour standoff at the Rail Splitter Rest Stop on southbound Interstate 55 near Sherman.

McGee is jailed ahead of his first Peoria County Court appearance, now scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Peoria County Coroner identified the victim as Ashley Tankersley, 37, of South Madison Park in Peoria. Coroner Jamie Harwood said Tankersley died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper torso.

Police said they're still investigating, but are not releasing other details.

PEORIA COUNTY (Heart of Illinois ABC) – A Peoria woman died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds early Sunday, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

He identified the victim as Ashley Tankersley, 37, of South Madison Park in Peoria. who was found in a ditch line near the intersection of Route 150 and Philander Chase Road about 1:50 a.m. Sunday,

Harwood said Tankersley had multiple gunshot wounds to her upper torso.

Sunday afternoon, Illinois State Police said they took into custody a person of interest following a 2 1/2-hour standoff at the Rail Splitter rest area on southbound Interstate 55 near Sherman.

The Peoria County County Sheriff’s Police continues to investigate the slaying.
