Quarterback Philip Rivers is retiring from the NFL after 17 seasons. The long-time Chargers quarterback faced the Green Bay Packers only five times over his career, but the handful of matchups provided some wild moments and outcomes.

Overall, the Packers were 3-2 against Rivers in the five games. He threw 12 touchdown passes, five interceptions and had a passer rating of 101.9.

Here’s a look back at the five games between Rivers and the Packers:

Statline: 27/36 for 306 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 116.2 passer rating

Rivers gave the Chargers an early 7-0 lead with a touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson, and he later regained the lead with back-to-back touchdown passes, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter to LaDainian Tomlinson. This game wouldn’t be remembered for any of Rivers’ touchdowns, however. Late in the fourth quarter, Packers quarterback Brett Favre fired a pass to Greg Jennings, who ran through the Chargers defense for a 57-yard touchdown. The score was Favre’s 420th career touchdown pass, tying Dan Marino’s all-time record, and it gave the unbeaten Packers a 24-21 lead.

The epic shootout between Rivers and Aaron Rodgers featured eight touchdown passes and 10 touchdowns overall, including two pick-sixes from the Packers defense. Once again, Rivers took an early lead with a touchdown pass to Jackson, but the Packers responded with a quick touchdown of their own and then back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns by safety Charlie Peprah and cornerback Tramon Williams. The Packers held leads of 31-17 and 45-24 in the second half, but Rivers threw two late touchdown passes to cut the deficit to seven points and had a chance late to tie the game, but Peprah’s second interception with 33 seconds left sealed the deal.

Week 6, 2015: Packers 27, Chargers 20

Statline: 43/65 for 503 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 99.7 passer rating

The Packers moved to 6-0 to start the 2015 season after surviving an aerial assault from Rivers, who set career-highs in completions (43) and passing yards (503) in the defeat. Down seven points but with a chance to tie the game with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, Rivers drove the Chargers 77 yards down to Green Bay’s 3-yard line. The Packers produced a memorable goal-line stand, keeping Rivers and the Chargers out of the end zone on four straight plays, culminating with a fourth-down pass breakup by Damarious Randall on a designed throw to running back Danny Woodhead.

Week 9, 2019: Chargers 26, Packers 11

Statline: 21/28 for 294 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, 108.3 passer rating

Nothing memorable about this one, at least from the Packers’ perspective. The Chargers scored the game’s first 19 points and held a 26-3 lead in the fourth quarter. Rivers was nothing if not efficient, completing 75 percent of his throws and averaging 10.5 yards per attempt. This was Rivers’ first win over the Packers.

Statline: 24/36 for 288 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 107.2 passer rating

Down 28-14 at the half, in part due to his second-quarter interception, Rivers and the Colts stormed back, scoring 17 straight points to take a 31-28 lead in the fourth quarter. The Packers eventually tied the game with a late drive and had the ball to start overtime, but a fumble by Marquez Valdes-Scantling allowed the Colts to escape. Rivers and Rodgers each threw three touchdown passes.
