A father was shot and killed Friday night during a fight between his daughter and other teenagers trying to settle an ongoing dispute, authorities said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on Saturday morning identified Brandon Curtis as the man who died.
Curtis took his teenage daughter around 7 p.m. to the 10900 block of Spring Brook Pass in Humble to "settle some type of score" with another group of teenagers, Gonzalez said.
The confrontation escalated into a physical fight between teens, Gonzalez said. Curtis reportedly joined the fray and struck a juvenile several times.
J. Richardson, an adult who lives at the location, saw Curtis hitting his juvenile brother, pulled out a pistol and allegedly shot the man in defense of his brother, Gonzalez said.
Teenagers were at the fight and involved in the ongoing dispute, though it was unclear what the altercation was about.
"It just seems that this could've been prevented. Violence is never the answer," Gonzalez said.
The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury when the investigation is complete.
