FlixBus, the tech friendly bus service that can connect riders between Seattle and Portland for just $14.99, is returning to service after suspending operations in the U.S. because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The signature lime green buses first arrived last fall, when FlixBus announced that it was partnering with MTR Western, a Seattle-based transportation services company. Long-distance service was put on hold on March 22 and started back up last week with a limited number of cities and buses.
Stressing the importance of keeping customers and employees safe, FlixBus is implementing a variety of safety guidelines, including the disinfection of vehicles after each trip. Other measures include:
- Passengers must wear face coverings while onboard. Passengers not wearing one will not be allowed to board the bus.
- Hand sanitizer at the front entrance of the bus.
- Drivers required to wear mask and gloves.
- First row seats located behind the driver are not for sale to ensure social distancing from driver.
- Staff will instruct and ensure passengers maintain 6 feet of distance while boarding and deboarding.
- Digital passenger check-in for a touch-less boarding experience.
Launched in Germany in 2013, FlixBus is known for green initiatives, including the introduction of long-distance electric buses in Europe.
The service includes Wi-Fi, outlets and an app that lets riders track an approaching bus like an Uber ride.
