NEWPORT — Between Vermont Technical College (VTC), North Country Hospital (NCH) and area healthcare organizations, there are now six more students who have completed the associate degree nursing program, are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and apply for RN licensure.
The students attended class in the Vermont Tech nursing designated classroom at the North Country Career Center in Newport and completed clinicals at North Country Hospital as well as surrounding sites, including the Vermont Department of Health, North Country Union Junior High School, Union House, and Bel-Aire Nursing Facilities.
Graduates include Heather McClean, who is working at the Manor in Morrisville, Meagan Perry, NCH, Samantha Lepage, employed with Newport Department of Corrections, Lara Cilwik, NCH, Olivia Dostal, from Springfield, who secured a position with Springfield Hospital, and Tonya Ratte, who is a North Country Hospital employee.
Vermont Technical College offers a 1 + 1 + 2 career ladder approach to the bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Year one is the practical nursing (PN) program, year two is the associate degree in nursing (ADN) program, and years three and four are the online registered nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
Vermont Tech currently has a PN program and ADN program presence in the Northeast Kingdom.
VTC nursing offers the PN and ADN programs in Lyndon, Newport, and White River Junction that are linked for classroom delivery via telepresence video conferencing technology.
