CLEVELAND, Ohio - The West has been boiling this summer with Portland hitting a record high of 116 degrees, hotter even than the all-time highs in Dallas and New Orleans.

Cleveland, in the meantime, has been relatively balmy, with only seven days in the 90s and none higher than 92 degrees, recorded on June 29.

How does that compare with recent Cleveland summers?

We had 16 days in the 90s last year, 20 in 2019, 22 in 2018, 19 in 2017 and 29 in 2016.

Cleveland’s hottest day on record was 104 degrees on June 25, 1988. That same year the city recorded 36 days in the 90s.

Here are the years with the most 90-degree or higher days, according to cleveland.com research of National Weather Service records that date to 1871. The readings initially were from downtown Cleveland, then from what is now Hopkins International Airport since May 1, 1938.
