Mutual admiration between quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Lamar Jackson - The Denver Post

Both grew up in south Florida. Both played at Louisville. Both were drafted 32nd overall. And both are NFL starting quarterbacks.

The mutual admiration between Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson and the Broncos’ Teddy Bridgewater runs deep as they prepare to face each other Sunday.

“It’s a unique bond,” Bridgewater said before practice Wednesday. “We have so much in common and I’m happy for all the success he’s had in his career. I’ve been following him since he got to the U of L. It’s great that he’s made all the strides he has throughout the course of his career. I’m looking forward to watching him compete against our defense.”

Bridgewater same the game will be “big for south Florida, for the next Teddy Bridgewater or Lamar Jackson to tune in and see two guys from similar backgrounds and similar upbringings. But at the same time, it’s a team sport and I’m sure Lamar will say the same thing. We both have a job to do.”

Jackson told reporters in Baltimore that Bridgewater visited Louisville’s program, “a few times, but we didn’t really get after it (discussing football) around that time. But for sure, that’s my boy.”

Boone practices. Running back Mike Boone was designated to return from injured reserve and participated in his first practice since sustaining a quad injury Aug. 12 in a joint practice at Minnesota.

The Broncos have 21 days to active Boone to the 53-man roster or keep him on injured reserve for the rest of the year.

In addition to his value as a back-up on offense, Boone will add special teams experience.

“He’s played special teams in his past and it’s one of the reasons why we were excited to sign him (in March),” coach Vic Fangio said.

Left guard Dalton Risner (foot) and right guard Graham Glasgow (knee) did not practice. Limited were nose tackle Mike Purcell (knee), running back Melvin Gordon (ribs) and outside linebacker Andre Mintze (hamstring). Defensive end Shelby Harris (wrist), inside linebacker Justin Strnad (hand) and outside linebacker Malik Reed (ankle/thumb) were full go.

Next receivers up. Jerry Jeudy (ankle) is out at least three more weeks and KJ Hamler (ACL) is done for the season. After Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick, the next receivers up are Diontae Spencer, Kendall Hinton and David Moore.

“We expect those guys to come in and be themselves,” Bridgewater said. “They don’t have to try and be Jerry or try and be KJ.”

Moore was signed off Las Vegas’ practice squad on Tuesday.

“He’s gotten good reviews from our personnel guys,” Fangio said. “It’s a great opportunity for him as it is for Kendall and our other receivers. (Moore playing Sunday) is realistic if he can handle the learning.”

Footnotes. Fangio confirmed the Broncos promoted quarterback Brett Rypien from the practice squad because another team wanted to add him to their 53-man roster. … Hinton would have been a natural choice to play the role of Jackson in practice, but won’t because of his increased role on offense. Fangio said one option is practice squad receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El. … The Broncos signed Harry Crider and Javon Patterson, both of whom are listed as guards/centers, to the practice squad.
