Fire crews are at the scene of a brush fire burning near Byron Sunday, although forward progress has been stopped.
The fire was reported at 9:20 a.m. and has burned approximately 75 acres, according to Alameda County Fire. It began near the 7900 block of Vasco Road on the border of Contra Costa and Alameda counties. Vasco Road is closed at Camino Diablo due to heavy smoke. The fire is burning below some of the wind turbines of the Altamont Pass wind farm. It is 30% contained as of 11:45 a.m.
By noon, Cal Fire tweeted forward progress of the blaze has been stopped and air resources are leaving the scene.
No structures were threatened and no evacuations were needed, but fire crews are asking people avoid Vasco Road. Gusty winds and a high of 106 degrees are forecast for the area by the National Weather Service.
Information about containment or how the fire was sparked was not immediately available.
