Three Burnet High School FFA students attained the state organization’s highest degree of membership during the 2021 Texas FFA Convention in Fort Worth.

Students Karley Denton, Ainsley Goehring, and Jordon Erickson each received a Lone Star Degree.

To earn this degree, an FFA student must have previously attained the Greenhand and Chapter degrees and demonstrate a high level of commitment to the program, their studies and projects, and the community.

Part of the state membership degree criteria includes 360 hours of agriculture education at the ninth-grade level and above as well as 300 more hours outside of the classroom in agricultural projects. Members must also demonstrate a number of leadership qualities and serve in leadership roles.

With the Lone Star Degree in their hands, the three can now work toward the national organization’s American FFA Degree, the highest one.

Denton, Goehring, and Erickson were honored during the Texas FFA Convention on July 5-9 in Fort Worth.

More than a dozen students represented Burnet High School FFA at the convention. During the event, the students met with university and industry representatives. They also had the opportunity to attend workshops, meet FFA students from across the state, and have some fun.

According to Texas FFA, the organization has approximately 137,500 members in the state. About 14,000 attended the convention.
