More rain possible in North Texas, then near-100-degree weather - The Dallas Morning News

Stormy weekend weather is expected to give way to blistering heat with high temperatures nearing 100 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible midday Saturday, mainly west of Interstate 35. The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office forecasts a 20% to 40% chance of rain.

Widespread storms are possible overnight. KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Kevan Smith said those late storms will linger into Sunday morning.

“Some of us will see the rain, some of us won’t,” Smith said. NBC5′s forecast says there’s a 20% to 30% chance of isolated storms in Dallas-Fort Worth.

High temperatures Saturday will reach the upper 80s, according to the weather service.

By the workweek, conditions will be “hot, dry and breezy,” the weather service said.

Highs will range from the low 90s to triple digits — with heat indices as high as 108 degrees — across North Texas, the weather service said. Lows will be in the 70s.

The weather service advised people to take frequent breaks in the shade or inside, stay hydrated and protect pets and children from the heat.

Storms drenched North Texas on Friday evening, leading to flash flooding in parts of Tarrant County. A 22-year-man died after being pulled from a submerged vehicle in Arlington.

Wednesday: 98/76. Mostly sunny, breezy and hot.

Thursday: 96/77. Partly cloudy and hot.

Friday: 96/74. Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms.
