Dallas-Fort Worth tied a 111-year record Saturday when temperatures topped 100 degrees for the first time in 2022.
The temperature at DFW International Airport hit 103 degrees at 2:41 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The last time the temperature hit 103 degrees on June 11 was in 1911.
The last time North Texas had its first 100-degree day this early in the year was in 2010, when the temperature reached 100 on June 5, according to the weather service. On average, the area experiences its first 100-degree day around July 1.
Last year, Dallas-Fort Worth didn’t reach 100 degrees until July 25, and the year ended with eight 100-degree days. In recent decades, North Texas has averaged 20 days of triple-digit temperatures, with as few as one (in 1992, 2002 and 2004) and as many as 71 (in 2011).
At 1:17PM, the DFW Airport reached 100 degrees for the first time this year. Today is the first 100 degree day since Sept 20, 2021.

Saturday’s 100-degree day comes as the region experiences an intense heat wave. Heat index values are expected to climb above 105 degrees through Sunday.
The weather service has issued a heat advisory this weekend for 46 North Texas counties, including Dallas, Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties. The advisory is expected to expire at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Temperatures are likely to top 100 degrees again Sunday — and may flirt with the daily record of 103, set in 1953 — and highs will remain in the upper 90s early next week.
With the extreme heat also comes an elevated risk of fire. The Texas A&M Forest Service predicts that Hunt and Rockwall counties will be under “high” fire danger by Monday.
By 8:45 p.m., MedStar in Tarrant County said that it had responded to 21 heat-related calls among patients aged 3 to 94 years old. Six people were taken to area hospitals, with four people in serious condition and one person in critical condition.
To avoid heat exhaustion or other heat-related illness, the weather service says, people should stay hydrated and remain in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible. Strenuous activities should be limited to the morning or evening, and wearing light and loose-fitting clothing is recommended.
People also should check on relatives and neighbors and should never leave children or pets unattended in cars.
