On Friday, United Airlines announced that it would become the first carrier to fly nonstop between Washington D.C. and Lagos, Nigeria, when it kicks-off a new schedule between the two cities later this fall.

Starting on Nov. 29, United will operate three weekly flights between Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, and Washington D.C.

The flight is another in United’s expansion of service to Africa, which includes new service between New York/Newark and Johannesburg, D.C., and Accra, Ghana, and New York/Newark and Cape Town.

"This new flight to Lagos has been highly anticipated by our customers and offers the first-ever nonstop service between Washington, D.C., and Nigeria, as well as convenient, one-stop connections to over 80 destinations throughout the Americas including Houston and Chicago," said Patrick Quayle, United's vice president of international network and alliances.

The new Lagos service will leave Washington on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and return from Lagos on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. United will operate the service on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring 28 Polaris business class seats, 21 premium economy seats, 36 economy plus seats, and 158 standard economy seats.
