Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on Friday at age 87.
Ginsburg was in Buffalo last summer to get a SUNY honorary doctorate degree at the University at Buffalo. She spoke at both UB and Kleinhans Music Hall. Justice Ginsburg touched on everything from trying to break into the law profession as a woman, to who inspired her.
“I didn’t know that this day would be proceeded by three weeks of daily radiation but I said I will not cancel Buffalo," she said.
And for many female lawyers here in the Queen City, she was an inspiration who paved the way for so many.
"Regardless of what your beliefs and your makeup and your history is, she certainly motivates you to be a better person. Regardless of what you believe, what your background is, what your make up is. Whether youre man or woman or lawyer or not lawyer, she's left a legacy that can only be imporoved upon but has made so many strides in history that is important for everyone," said Meghann N. Roehl of Roach, Brown, McCarthy & Gruber, P.C.
She also spoke at the Jackson Center and Chautauqua Institution in 2013.
The organization sent out a statement, saying "Justice Ginsburg, indeed you will be remembered as someone who used your talents to do your work to the very best of your ability. We are all the better for it."
