Neeharika Immaneni came all the way from India and was living alone for the first time while following her passion and fulfilling her father’s dream. Her dad lost his battle with cancer a few years ago and this master's degree is her way of honoring him.
“It was always my dad's dream that I have to do a master's in the U.S. So though he is not here, I guess he would really be proud,” said Immaneni.
She discovered her passion for artificial intelligence while getting her bachelor's degree in India. UT was one of her top picks to further her education. She said she was interacting with the best minds and had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.
Despite the new opportunities, life as a student away from home was hard. She said she missed her mom’s cooking the most and going home often was not an option.
“If you fall sick and you just want to go home it is not easy when you are so far away. I came in August 2018 and went back in December 2019,” said Immaneni
After two years of hard work, she was getting ready to celebrate her graduation, but COVID-19 came in the way of her mom's first trip to the U.S.
Immaneni is looking to the future. She is getting ready to pack her bags and move to Seattle for her first job in the U.S.
