TUSCALOOSA (WVUA) -Over the weekend, 100 student athletes graduated from the University of Alabama. But in addition to those current student athletes, former football players Chris Goode and Le’Ron McClain finished their degrees.
McClain graduated with a bachelor or arts in human environmental sciences. He’s the first person from his family to attend and graduate college.
The former Tuscaloosa County High School Wildcat couldn’t walk at his high school commencement because he had to retake his science final so he could enroll in college. During college at UA, he played fullback for coach Mike Shula between 2003 and 2006. In 2007, he was drafted into the NFL, where he played for the Ravens, the Chiefs and the Chargers. McClain needed 13 hours to finish his degree at UA, so he re-enrolled to finally become a college graduate.
“The phone call that I got when I got drafted doesn’t compare to this,” McClain said. “This is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life, other than my kids being born.”
McClain said a big reason for finally graduating was showing his children that if he can do it, they can do it.
