The state is recommending drivers use Highway 97A for travel between Wenatchee and Chelan after road work on Highway 2 on the Douglas County side of the Columbia River led to significant traffic backups.
Some areas of the highway are backed up for more than a mile, with the road work expected to continue through Friday.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. workers will be repairing a failed section of wheel rut chip seal between East Wenatchee and Orondo.
WSDOT said flaggers are directing traffic around the work, between Mileposts 130 and 139 but anyone driving the highway during those times should expect significant delays.
